U CAN Cleanup Aliso @ the WCS 2010
Press Release * June 3rd, 2010
Since the mid-1990s, Aliso Beach has been closed on multiple occasions due to the contaminated urban runoff coming from Aliso Creek. Once the warning signs highlighting the effects of entering the water are posted, avid skimboarders feel most at lost without their playground. The question is: "What CAN U do about the situation?" The solution is simple. U CAN Cleanup Aliso! U CAN is Sol Shred Skim's latest environmental project which stands for yoU Contribute Awareness Necessary. This year will be the first time in history that the World Championship of Skimboarding, hosted by Victoria Skimboards, will hold a beach cleanup following both days of competition on June 19th & 20th. As an eco-conscious organization, S3's initial goal is to lead by example and inspire all along the journey. U CAN Cleanup Aliso will be a casual event filled with positive vibes and raffle prizes from underground sponsors like . . . Saba Anna, Bitches On Boards (BOB), Extreme Outdoor Supply (EOS), MOSTIC, Freedom Riding and us. Trash bags & rubber gloves will be available so please stick around after all the heats are over & give back the love & respect Aliso deserves.

4/22/10 Since it's Earth Day, we decided to drop our latest project on you. Announcing ... the 1st Annual "U CAN Cleanup Aliso" hosted by Sol Shred Skim & Victoria Skimboards on June 19th & 20th at the World Championship of Skimboarding -- Laguna Beach, CA!!! Understanding the acronym of "U CAN" is simple. It stands for "yoU Contribute Awareness Necessary". The message is an equation which sums up to cleaning the mess we leave behind as a human race. There will be more to come on this eXciting beach cleanup so stay tuned.
Still on the subject of the WCS 2010 . . . this year will be the first time in history that women get to compete at a professional level. The release of a documentary on female skimboarding called, Skim Chicks, helped push the matter for serious recognition. After all these years of presenting females on the front line, S3 is happy that other women are finally standing their ground & expressing themselves with confidence out loud. The WCS 2010 is two months away so it's time to Train trAin traiN.
* Mahalo nui loa to Hunter Trevelyan Wyndham for designing our "U CAN" ad!

1/22/10 What a crazy year of eXcitement! So much that S3 had to go on a sabbatical in December till now. Before our extended period of leave, S3 was hired for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing by Billabong's official wine called, Wild Rock, to assist in promoting a fundraising event for SurfAid International. On December 11th 2009, an exclusive wine reception party was hosted at the Billabong house on the North Shore of O'ahu. All ticket sales including silent auction bids were collected & donated to SurfAid's current efforts in restoring Padang, Indonesia which got hit with a 7.9 earthquake last September. Over $4000 was raised thanks to the generous art contributions from Suzy Annick, Steven Power, Clark Takashima & Luke Thompson.
Two days after throwing a successful party for a great cause . . .
S3 boarded a plane with a formal invitation from the mayor of the skimboarding capital of the Philippines. As guests, Joseph "Squid" Lao & JaZ Joy were welcomed to the Phillipine Skim Association's 6th National Skim Open at Bantay Dagat of Tanauan, Leyte on December 27-30. Sol Shred Skim became a sponsor overnight by voluntarily leading in beach cleanups two mornings in a row. The mayor came to us with much gratitude for setting such a positive example for the local people. We made a deal as a sponsor to return every year with intentions of promoting environmental awareness. What a way to put closure on an epic year. MARAMING SALAMAT to the skim players of the Philippines (especially members of Alon) & those who treated S3 like royalty during our visit. Till we meet again . . . POOM PAM TRIM & WA DA DA DA!

9/21/09 S3 believes that celebrating seasonal holidays is fun but it should not be the only reason to rejoice in a peaceful manner. Today is International Day of Peace & also the last day of Summer. We hope our favorite time of the year was much enjoyed & explored by every1!
This past Saturday was a nonstop process of intense events . . . First off, HASL's 5th contest of 6 took place at Keawa'ula Bay (a.k.a. Yokohama Bay) & fortunately had some sick conditions. There were guest competitors from Santa Cruz & the Caribbean Islands that definitely threw down to make the contest even more intriguing. BIG UP to Josh Rutty, one of the founding fathers of skimcaribbean.com, for connecting with S3 to find out what was really going on while in town!
Later on in the evening at a venue called "NEON NEON" hosted by NMG & Blue Hawaii . . . $$$ was raised for "Keep the Country COUNTRY" & a local sk8boarder named, Kenneth Brimer, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Mahalo to all sponsors and those who donated time, energy & money for two great causes.

8/19/09 This is our birthday song . . . it isn't very long . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY SolShredSkim.com!!! With 3 candles to blow out, best believe our wish for this year is super special. S3 is always about growth. Our bonsai tree which is rooted with love is a symbol of our Family's progression & togetherness throughout these past years. S3's active & positive lifestyle has expanded into a huge adventure with no limits.
One of our hobbies which has evolved into its own club is --- hiking. This is how our birthday was celebrated today on the south side of O'ahu, HI. A group of 17 friends gathered to explore Ka'au Crater of Palolo Valley. Of course, a posse this big ended up splitting 3 ways without even realizing the mishap until enough time passed. Well, we definitely learned our lesson & will always have a preliminary powwow before starting any expedition. Out of this experience spawned the foundation of an official hiking club called, HI kinetic energy (HIke). Sol Shred Skim will be the primary sponsor for this new movement. Stay tuned for a blog on HIke coming soon to a computer near you!

7/13/09 Try to say "MAUI MELE" 3 times fast. Just like skimming, it's not as easy as it looks. This is the title of the third HASL contest which was sponsored by SaveMakena.org & Maui Skimmers on Saturday, July 11th at Oneloa (a.k.a. Big Beach) of Makena State Park. Contestants had to bust out with more tech tricks than usual because waves were small & troughy. It's all about making the most out of what we are given. Here are the results:

6/21/09 Happy Summer Solstice! Longer days with heatwaves are here again which means beach time on the regular. Do a good deed this summer & teach some1 how to surf, sk8 or skim. It will remind you where you started & what you need to work on as you listen to your own instruction. By explaining at a beginner's level you will learn how to humble your ego by opening your heart to the student. F.Y.I. --- Don't forget to put that goop on your face & body before basking under the sol!
6/20/09 Thanks to Surfrider Foundation & Surfing Magazine for making today International Surfing Day back in 2004! This is a serious celebration that many go out of their way for to give back to the oceans that offer us clarity. But really, S3 wishes it would be like this everyday. A couple S3 Family members showed up for the Surfrider Foundation beach cleanup at Diamond Head to help pickup litter along the coast this morning. The strangest piece of junk found was a bathroom sink in one of the cliff ravines. Gnarly what we leave behind as humans! "Unlike footprints in the sand, rubbish will still remain a mess unless you pick up the tracks you left". . . Remember this.
5/1/09 We hope that a week was enough anticipation for the official results of the YokOhama SkimOrama contest held last Saturday, April 25th on the west side of O'ahu, HI. We're on Hawaiian time out here which means there's no need to rush the NEWS. Just dial up on coconut wireless for some instant 411 . . .

4/22/09 What is Earth Day? Due to Wikipedia, it is a day designed to inspire awareness & appreciation for the Earth's environment. This is nothing new to S3 because it's how we live every day. The trendiness of being eco-conscious has become a way of life to those who have chosen to support a sustainable future. As one family, one community, one society, one nation & one world together . . . we can overcome anything and actualize our dreams. It is important to remember that we, as humans, have an effect on everything we touch since it is all a part of us. The moment of power is now (Manawa) so let us return the love given to us freely by Mother Earth more often than once a year. HASL Contest 2 of 6

3/2/09 Time just skims by way too fast . . . so fast that it's almost springtime. Let's initiate the preseason by acknowledging our second year of celebrating Gender Equality month! We at S3 believe there should be an even balance of mind, body, heart, spirit & competition between ladies & gents. Remember: Both genders need each other in order to continue legacies therefore uniting tightly as a TEAM will never fail.

12/21/08 Another season comes to an end as we welcome the Winter Solstice. S3 understands it has been a while since we have updated our friends, family & visitors on current events. We apologize for the delay due to spreading most of our positive energy through other projects & promotions embracing sustainability. Here are some recent highlights of success:

12/18/08 The HonuGuide, a local resource publication & eco-friendly advertiser, celebrates its premiere release on O`ahu. It includes a poem written by S3's Jasmine Joy called, "sustAINAbility". honuguide.com
12/20/08 HEAVYWATERMAG.COM throws a disco party to raise funds for the O`ahu Chapter of Surfrider Foundation. Mahalo to all who volunteered in making this event happen.
9/29/08 Mahalo to Hans Hedeman Surf School for inviting Sol Shred Skim & friends to join THE SUNSHINE KIDS for a surf session in Waikiki at a break called, Publics. The Sunshine Kids Foundation is dedicated to children with cancer. This non-profit gives these cool kids the opportunity to participate in exciting group activities from across the United States. One of the young girls mentioned that today was the best experience of her life. The surf instructors & volunteers felt the same way about the vibes in an ocean of positive lineups. Check out their site --- sunshinekids.org to find out why the sun is their symbol pressed, painted & baked by them as a pin to share & wear proudly.

8/23/08 Today's turnout at the 1st Annual Save Makena Skimboard/Bodyboard Competition was a complete success. An unforeseen count of 82 local skimmers & bodyboarders competed in 10-minute heats at one of the very last raw beaches of Maui. $Money$ was raised to fund the educational concept created by Save Makena to spread awareness about its preservation.
"When it came down to it everybody did their part. Some above & beyond. Much mahalos to Eddie, Angie & Brent." Lanakila Kelliher stated.
Thanks to Eddie (Makena's own skim pioneer) for naturally taking on the Director of Operations role in supporting his home break. Second shout out goes to Angie Hofmann (Save Makena's Community & Youth Organizer) for assembling such an outstanding event. Third acknowledgment is dedicated to Mr. Brent Edwards (of Maui Skimmers) for his sexy tone {lol} & silly comments on the microphone throughout the festivities. Extra kudos goes to him for donating one of his real deal skimboards & shaping a collection of woody awards miniature sized for the winners. Even better are the first place trophies made from koa wood by Eddie & painted with valuable gold by Lanakila Creations. So Sick. Maui Taro Burger supplied the "ono grinds" [yummy food] on the house all day. There was a raffle for the early entry contestants after the finalists were announced in proper order. Due to an overwhelming amount of sponsors & free give aways, the crowd went crazy once they were let loose to raid what was left of a conscious gathering. Sol Shred Skim was present for so many more reasons other than playing the field. We definitely did our part as a hardworking sponsor & multitasking volunteer from dawn patrol to solset. Here's to the beginning of an end to large-scale development & the salvation of Makena for years to come.

8/19/08 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SolShredSkimdotcom!!! Can you believe 2 years has gone by since we've broke inside the underground scene to share our lifestyle around the world? The evolution of this user-friendly domain & ever eclectic company has been on an incline since its beginning. We plan to challenge all issues that try to disrupt our big dream of helping to preserve the natural state of Mother Earth and her inhabitants. Da S3 Family has built a TEAM of not just athletes but . . . artists, poets, musicians, environmentalists, entrepreneurs, designers, photographers & role models. Most of all, it has embraced the respect of Family Ethics motivated by Gender Equality. The agenda for this coming year might be a little hectic for us to keep up with. We warn you now to hold on tight once Sol Shred Skim reaches the top of the roller coaster ride cuz we'll be up there for a while. Thank you to all who have supported us in any & every way!

7/27/08 The 32nd Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding wrapped up its rowdiness on this late Sunday afternoon at Aliso Beach in Laguna, CA. Using the word "competition" is not enough to justify the amount of intensity which was spewed over So Lag's swash zone this weekend. Congratulations to The Killer Bees for placing top 4 in the mens pro division. The buzzin' they left on the shorepound stirred up the water for the womens final heat which followed. Witnessing the ladies step up by hitting lips, busting air & caressing sections was definitely a highlight. Boys better watch their tails because girls are setting new standards quite smoothly. Props to all competitors & age groups for getting out there & charging --- especially our Family riders & the groms! Mahalo to Tex Haines for reinventing Vic & giving us athletes the opportunity to stay on top of our game. Until next year. . .

7/11/08 S3 dedicates the second week of the second half of this year to two non-profit organizations who survive based on the desire to preserve the indigenous ecosystems of their beautiful Hawaiian communities. We feel honored in standing behind these strong groups!
Defend O'ahu Coalition, known for its motto: "Keep the Country COUNTRY", was present for the state Land Use Commission hearing in downtown Honolulu early this morning. Voices from the community were heard in defense opposing the expansion of agriculture to urban & resort use over the 236 acres of Turtle Bay on the north shore of O'ahu. It is up to LUC whether or not a 1986 reclassification to add five more hotels between Kawela Bay & Kahuku Point will be revoked or not. DOC's strong & clear impression made the Commission feel there were many legal aspects to this motion. LUC decided to take it under legal advisement & defer on a final decision. There will be a tentative meeting on September 18th & 19th awaiting the outcome of this battle. It's not over yet! DefendOahuCoalition.org
Save Makena is devoted to the sustainment of Maui's wild open spaces, beaches, reef, Hawaiian culture sites & native dry land forests in the Makena/ Honua'ula area. They believe future generations have the right to experience the essence of what remains without large-scale developments obstructing a natural view. Makena (a.k.a. Big Beach) is a well known spot for insane shorepound. This is a place where the skim culture is very much revered. Mahalo to S3's Family rider, Lanakila Kelliher, for linking Angelika Hofmann to us. Angelika is one of the leading forces behind this non-profit organization. She has politely asked S3 for assistance in promoting Save Makena's 1st Annual Skimboard/Bodyboard Competition at Makena State Park on August 23rd. Big Beach is where all the madness will occur. On top of marketing for this event, Sol Shred Skim has offered to donate some of its new Summer*Autumn apparel which will be posted in the next couple of weeks. savemakena.org
6/26/08 I Ho'ili Kamali'i (In Leaving a Legacy for the Children of the Land) is a new project started by Hawai'i's own slack key guitar mastermind --- Makana. His intention is to bring unique & influential music experiences into local schools by choosing special musicians to conduct these interactions. Makana is an active humanitarian who believes a sense of cultural awareness needs to inspire children so they may have a genuine appreciation for the music of Hawai'i. Sol Shred Skim donated time & effort toward the production of IHK's launch benefit. For the love of music & hope instilled within young generations, we support this movement & assist in its success. Stay tuned for more info. . .
6/21/08 Summer Solstice is just another day to the average person. Sol Shred Skim LLC acknowledges the fact that it is the first day of summer & the longest day of the year. On a daily basis, recent research indicates we need about 4,000 units of vitamin D. Most of us absorb around 20,000 units of vitamin D after 20 minutes of being under the summer sun. That's a lot of sol! Sunscreen is our friend so don't be shady. Share the moisture with others as you dive into our favorite season.
6/8/08 The China Uemura 12th Annual Wahine Surfing Classic, held at Queens surf break in Waikiki, was jam-packed with inspirational estrogen of all ages. Winners were announced today based on the weekend event. S3 was there to give our little Vanina a big hug & squeeze for placing in finals amongst competitors twice her size & age. We are so stoked to have her rep'n Da S3 Family! 15-year-old Carissa Moore took 1st place in the pro-am longboard division & a check for $1000. Congratulations to all the graceful wahines who put their whole hearts into every wave they catch. It's not about winning . . . it's about Sol surfing! Check out competition photos on the 3rd & 4th pages of our Collage.
5/21/08 Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
S3's founder, Jasmine Joy, becomes a Frontline member of the world's leading environmental organization --- GREENPEACE. Monthly donations from S3 will help prove every day that ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things. Be a force of nature, JOIN greenpeace.org TODAY!

5/13/08 Anyone in college going through finals week deserves a break between study sessions. We request you log on to foreverskimthemag.com & get lost in Issue 27. Stop on pages 26-27 for a minor history lesson on Wawamalu (a.k.a. Sandy's) of O'ahu then proceed to the cover story of our friend & skim mentor --- George Bryan.
S3 is very grateful for its solid family of support. Hunter Trevelyan Wyndham is the first artist to sketch a profile of Da S3 Family Tree. He also assembled the ad above with a classic touch of a picture shot at Wamamalu by Spike of LeadingEdgePhotos.com. Our family always comes through. It's what we do.

4/22/08 Today is Earth Day . . . an ecological 24-hour period of natural awareness. Why is there only one day (annually) our world takes the time to become seriously informed of what's truly going on all around us? Are humans that afraid of the truth? S3 is fearless & active in exposing an era of speciesism. One of the largest global industries is the reliance humans have over animals entirely for profit. Watch "Earthlings" to witness chronicles of never-before-seen footage shot by hidden cameras and accept what is hidden from us.
3/30/08 S3 is X-tremely stoked to welcome the youngest addition yet to Da S3 Family... 11-year-old Vanina Walsh. This little rippah was noticed dropping in the busy lineup of Queens in Waikiki. Her attitude, at such a young age, is completely humble & inspirational. As S3 progresses into succession, we hope that Vanina will become our ideal pinup surfer girl setting a positive example for the grom generation. She even makes her own surf wax! All we have to say is "WOW". Check some snap shots of her in the last layout of our Collage page by clicking the farthest right arrow.
3/27/08 A big MAHALO NUI LOA to Ralph "Spike" Raymond of LeadingEdgePhotos.com for coming out to Sandy's and shooting Da S3 Family on spring break! Check out his site to view S3's recent sesh featuring. . . Shiho, Keiao & Jasmine. While on his site, browse through worldwide photos of X-treme action water sports & culture available for purchase. Spike also posted S3 photos on surfline.com, surfnewsnetwork.com & eppicsurf.com. If chargin' was a crime ---X-treme Chics would be arrested. Enough said.

3/3/08 Much mahalos to Derek Makekau (of Forever Skim Magazine) for giving S3 the opportunity to be a part of his popular creation. Go to foreverskim.com, upload the March/April issue, flip to pages 42-45 & read Shred This. Say goodbye to paper cuts & hello to S3's concept of a skim epidemic. . .
3/1/08 As an underground project & growing company, S3 has decided to start a new tradition for the month of March. S3 celebrates one of its core beliefs --- Gender Equality. This month is dedicated to the unity of both genders. Just like Yin&Yang, the feminine and masculine sides, due to destiny, are supposed to balance each other. It's tough being an X-treme Chic in a male dominated world! Respect.
2/5/08 Need a virtual face lift? Tired of your ordinary computer screen, boring MySpace background or naked website? Thanks to "Keiao" of S3, we now have banners/ wallpaper on our Contact page for your own discretion. Please use wisely.

1/22/08 Congratulations to Heather Carrick of BOB (a.k.a. Tugger) for placing 3rd in the Junior Women's Shortboard division of WSA!!!
1/15/08 Check out our S3 Family rider "Keiao" on the cover of sandslider.com!!! We are proud of the passion & attitude she exemplifies as a serious skimboarder. It is S3's honor to rep her as one of our top dawgs.
X-treme Chics are stepping up in the skim world from east to west on the mainland, O'ahu to Maui on the HI islands, Australia & even Japan. Most of these hardcore estrogen rippers strive to reach Miss Shonna Cobb's winning standards. Will 2008 be the year she passes on her reigning crown?
1/7/08 The new year has brought "fresh" ideas to Sol Shred Skim. Two visionary opportunities associate with music & gearing more toward the environment. S3 has decided to bring a musical influence into our core belief of expressing Art & Poetry. Through this movement we have selected certain musicians to represent the lifestyle S3 portrays.
Tempo Valley is a local band from the island of O'ahu. They are the epitome of S3's values & the forefront of any musical sponsorship hereafter.
On the green side, S3 is working hard to support the banning of plastic bags used in super markets. Stay tuned & watch TV . . . that's Tempo Valley . . . not television!!! tempovalley.com
