7/11/08            S3 dedicates the second week of the second half of this year to two non-profit organizations who survive based on the desire to preserve the indigenous ecosystems of their beautiful Hawaiian communities.  We feel honored in standing behind these strong groups!
    Defend O'ahu Coalition, known for its motto:  "Keep the Country COUNTRY", was present for the state Land Use Commission hearing in downtown Honolulu early this morning.  Voices from the community were heard in defense opposing the expansion of agriculture to urban & resort use over the 236 acres of Turtle Bay on the north shore of O'ahu.  It is up to LUC whether or not a 1986 reclassification to add five more hotels between Kawela Bay & Kahuku Point will be revoked or not.  DOC's strong & clear impression made the Commission feel there were many legal aspects to this motion.  LUC decided to take it under legal advisement & defer on a final decision.  There will be a tentative meeting on September 18th & 19th awaiting the outcome of this battle.  It's not over yet!   DefendOahuCoalition.org
    Save Makena is devoted to the sustainment of Maui's wild open spaces, beaches, reef, Hawaiian culture sites & native dry land forests in the Makena/ Honua'ula area.  They believe future generations have the right to experience the essence of what remains without large-scale developments obstructing a natural view.  Makena (a.k.a. Big Beach) is a well known spot for insane shorepound.  This is a place where the skim culture is very much revered.  Mahalo to S3's Family rider, Lanakila Kelliher, for linking Angelika Hofmann to us.  Angelika is one of the leading forces behind this non-profit organization.  She has politely asked S3 for assistance in promoting Save Makena's 1st Annual Skimboard/Bodyboard Competition at Makena State Park on August 23rd.  Big Beach is where all the madness will occur.  On top of marketing for this event, Sol Shred Skim has offered to donate some of its new Summer*Autumn apparel which will be posted in the next couple of weeks.    savemakena.org  
               
6/26/08           I Ho'ili Kamali'i (In Leaving a Legacy for the Children of the Land) is a new project started by Hawai'i's own slack key guitar mastermind --- Makana.  His intention is to bring unique & influential music experiences into local schools by choosing special musicians to conduct these interactions.  Makana is an active humanitarian who believes a sense of cultural awareness needs to inspire children so they may have a genuine appreciation for the music of Hawai'i.  Sol Shred Skim donated time & effort toward the production of IHK's launch benefit.  For the love of music & hope instilled within young generations, we support this movement & assist in its success.  Stay tuned for more info. . .      

6/21/08            Summer Solstice is just another day to the average person.  Sol Shred Skim LLC acknowledges the fact that it is the first day of summer & the longest day of the year.  On a daily basis, recent research indicates we need about 4,000 units of vitamin D.  Most of us absorb around 20,000 units of vitamin D after 20 minutes of being under the summer sun.   That's a lot of sol!  Sunscreen is our friend so don't be shady.  Share the moisture with others as you dive into our favorite season.

6/8/08            The China Uemura 12th Annual Wahine Surfing Classic, held at Queens surf break in Waikiki, was jam-packed with inspirational estrogen of all ages.  Winners were announced today based on the weekend event.  S3 was there to give our little Vanina a big hug & squeeze for placing in finals amongst competitors twice her size & age.   We are so stoked to have her rep'n Da S3 Family!  15-year-old Carissa Moore took 1st place in the pro-am longboard division & a check for $1000.  Congratulations to all the graceful wahines who put their whole hearts into every wave they catch.  It's not about winning . . . it's about Sol surfing!  Check out competition photos on the 3rd & 4th pages of our Collage.

5/13/08            Anyone in college going through finals week deserves a break between study sessions.  We request you log on to foreverskimthemag.com & get lost in Issue 27.  Stop on pages 26-27 for a minor history lesson on Wawamalu (a.k.a. Sandy's) of O'ahu then proceed to the cover story of our friend & skim mentor --- George Bryan. 
    S3 is very grateful for its solid family of support.  Hunter Trevelyan Wyndham is the first artist to sketch a profile of Da S3 Family Tree.  He also assembled the ad above with a classic touch of a picture shot at Wamamalu by Spike of LeadingEdgePhotos.com.  Our family always comes through.  It's what we do.

                                

4/22/08            Today is Earth Day . . . an ecological 24-hour period of natural awareness.  Why is there only one day (annually) our world takes the time to become seriously informed of what's truly going on all around us?  Are humans that afraid of the truth?  S3 is fearless & active in exposing an era of speciesism.  One of the largest global industries is the reliance humans have over animals entirely for profit.  Watch "Earthlings" to witness chronicles of never-before-seen footage shot by hidden cameras and accept what is hidden from us.

3/30/08            S3 is X-tremely stoked to welcome the youngest addition yet to Da S3 Family... 11-year-old Vanina Walsh.  This little rippah was noticed dropping in the busy lineup of Queens in Waikiki.  Her attitude, at such a young age, is completely humble & inspirational.  As S3 progresses into succession, we hope that Vanina will become our ideal pinup surfer girl setting a positive example for the grom generation.  She even makes her own surf wax!  All we have to say is "WOW".  Check some snap shots of her in the last layout of our Collage page by clicking the farthest right arrow.

3/1/08            As an underground project & growing company, S3 has decided to start a new tradition for the month of March.  S3 celebrates one of its core beliefs --- Gender Equality.  This month is dedicated to the unity of both genders.  Just like Yin&Yang, the feminine and masculine sides, due to destiny, are supposed to balance each other.  It's tough being an X-treme Chic in a male dominated world!  Respect.

X-treme Chics are stepping up in the skim world from east to west on the mainland, O'ahu to Maui on the HI islands, Australia & even Japan.  Most of these hardcore estrogen rippers strive to reach Miss Shonna Cobb's winning standards.  Will 2008 be the year she passes on her reigning crown?

1/7/08            The new year has brought  "fresh" ideas to Sol Shred Skim.  Two visionary opportunities associate with music & gearing more toward the environment.  S3 has decided to bring a musical influence into our core belief of expressing Art & Poetry.  Through this movement we have selected certain musicians to represent the lifestyle S3 portrays. 
Tempo Valley is a local band from the island of O'ahu.  They are the epitome of S3's values & the forefront of any musical sponsorship hereafter.

8/28/07            Hope you didn't miss an amazing lunar eclipse!  It started before midnight & ended a few hours later.  Hawaiian leis were tossed in the Pacific Ocean in memory of our late founder --- Arthur Walter.  S3 especially remembers his wonderful life today.  May he rest in eternal peace.
